SOM Alumni Profiles for Their Work in Africa
Two 91大神 School of Medicine alumni were featured in the 91大神 Medicine Bulletin in Winter 2022-2023 for their work in Africa, where they teach medical school electives that receive funding from the UMB Center for Global Engagement.
Dr. Cassidy Claassen, '09, Associate Professor of Medicine and Ciheb Global Health Fellowship Director, teaches a Zambia Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine elective in Lusaka, Zambia and has hosted two groups of four students each spring for the last seven years. Claassen is also a member of the UMB Center for Global Engagement Advisory Committee.
Dr. Matthew Loftus, '11, is program coordinator for Kabarak University Family Medicine Residency and clinical director of the Nuru ya Tumaini Mental Health Centre in Litein, Kenya.
