We aspire to be the preeminent partner in solving complex social and health challenges, creating a future defined by equity, justice, and vibrant, healthy communities.

What We Do

A core strength of our mission is to recognize and address real‑world challenges by convening talent across disciplines to generate innovative, integrated, and impactful solutions.

  • Our vision reflects best practices championed by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP), and insights from the Chronicle of Higher Education, emphasizing cross‑sector collaboration, donor‑centered engagement, and philanthropy as a driver of societal transformation.
  • Our work is grounded in UMB’s collective strength – aligning people and resources to create holistic, impactful solutions no single unit could achieve on its own.
  • In partnership with the president and provost, we connect schools and expertise to advance UMB’s core institutional priorities: student access, faculty excellence, research, clinical innovation, entrepreneurship, and community impact.
  • We collaborate closely with the people who drive UMB forward – donors, faculty, students, and University leaders including deans, development officers, program directors, and administrators.
  • Services we provide include:
    • Annual giving, leadership giving, and alumni engagement program support
    • Corporate and foundation relations
    • Gift planning
    • Principal giving
    • Philanthropy research and prospect management
    • Community and stakeholder philanthropy aligned with institutional priorities
    • Strategic philanthropic planning, donor‑experience design, and future‑focused insights.
  • The Office of Philanthropy maintains a sophisticated donor database, leveraging analytics, donor‑experience insights, and emerging technologies to strengthen donor and alumni engagement and long‑term partnerships.
  • Our work unites expertise across UMB, enabling collaboration that results in multidimensional, high‑impact solutions to complex challenges.
