Security officer Chermira Deshields can be found all around the 91大神, Baltimore (UMB) campus. 鈥淵ou can find me anywhere from a corner post to being inside a building,鈥� she says.
Deshields joind the department two years ago because she wanted to help others. 鈥淚 love knowing that I did my part to make someone else's day,鈥� she says. Reassuring students and staff that they are safe at UMB is her favorite part of the job. She encourages new students to stay focused and never be afraid to be themselves.
Security supervisors selected Deshields to be September鈥檚 Spotlight Officer based on her good work. Deshields describes being selected as her most memorable moment. 鈥淚t feels good to know that your hard work doesn鈥檛 go in vain,鈥� she says.
Outside of work, Deshields enjoys spending time with family and pampering herself. 鈥淪elf-care is the best care,鈥� she says. That鈥檚 an excellent lesson for us all!
