MS Teams Calling FAQ
The transition to Microsoft Teams is the culmination of a multi-year effort to modernize our technology systems while also providing cost savings. Microsoft Teams will provide a modern, collaborative solution for all voice, chat, and video services in a single application.
Anyone with a UMB supported telephone line or device.
CITS will be arranging meetings with each school and department to create a migration timeline that fits your needs. The full transition of all lines and services is targeted for Summer 2027.
Yes. The project transition will provide savings to schools. The specific savings options will be reviewed with each group when they meet with CITS to discuss a migration timeline.

Yes. There will be a cost incentive tied to users who no longer need a physical phone. CITS will review all options in more detail when they meet with schools and departments to discuss a migration timeline.

No. You can also place a call in Teams by typing someone’s name.
Is 5 digit dialing still possible? Yes.
Once transitioned, you’ll place outbound calls directly from Teams, something not possible today within Teams.
Do I still need to dial a 9 for external calls? No, there is no need to dial a 9, nor a 1 for long-distance calls.
You will continue to use the Cisco Webex Calling until your number is transitioned. After migration, you will use the Microsoft Teams (desktop or mobile app) for all calls.
Yes. Once you have been transitioned to Microsoft Teams, you will be able to place and receive calls from your UMB number from any Internet-connected device.

Yes. Microsoft teams provides traditional voicemail as well with transcription sent to your email.
Will I have the same Voicemail PIN#? No. MS Teams Calling does not require a PIN #.
Yes, Microsoft Teams has the option for SMS. This is an add-on service that CITS will review in more detail when they meet with schools and departments to discuss a migration timeline.
Once transitioned, Microsoft Teams will offer several new features for voice services, including the ability to block nuisance callers and seamlessly switch between devices mid-call or mid-meeting.
Shared-lines and phone scenarios are possible with Microsoft Teams. CITS will review all options in more detail when they meet with schools and departments to discuss a migration timeline.
Fax lines will also be transitioned. CITS will review all options in more detail when they meet with schools and departments to discuss a migration timeline. Both an eFax solution, and physical fax machine options are available.
There should be no visible or functional change for these services.
CITS is producing training videos on using calling within Teams, and our team will be engaged with each group from start to finish to make the transition as smooth as possible.
